Sindh to Close Schools Following Resurgence of Covid-19

Amid a resurgence of Covid-19 cases in educational facilities Sindh government has decided to close schools for an additional week. Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani addressed the issue in a news conference saying, “Classes from fifth to eighth will not resume on September 21 and the situation will be analyzed after a week. Middle classes can be started on September 28 if condition improves but will be postponed if situation deteriorates. The government will make no compromise on the health of students.”

He also wished that the center would act to stem the flow of cases that have picked up momentum. On the other hand, In a tweet Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mehmood, said that the “Health of students is our first priority and any decision we make will be guided by the advice of the Health Ministry.” However, he lamented the ‘knee jerk response’ to close schools fearing that such a move would “destroy education.”
