Addressing the UN on its 75th anniversary, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi pointed out that Palestine and Kashmir remain the most glaring failures in the UN’s long stalwart defense against a world of injustice. Although the foreign minister felt that the UN should be proud of its many victories, i.e. saving “succeeding generations from the scourge of war”, reaffirming “equal and fundamental rights of men and women and nations large and small”, and promoting “better life in larger freedoms”, there was still much to be done and that “We the peoples of the UN must rise up to meet the global challenges faced, both historic and current.”

Also important to note was that the OIC contact group met on the sidelines of the UN general assembly where Pakistan also raised the topic of the disputed region of Kashmir. Addressing the attendees, he took note of India’s rising aggressive rhetoric along the border which has started to claim lives. Going on to note “There is a tangible threat of further escalation as India might conduct another false flag operation to justify renewed aggression against Pakistan, posing a serious threat to regional peace and security,” concerning the troubles along the Line of Control (LOC).
