The Pakistan Consulate in Dubai and Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi are arranging flights for stranded Pakistanis with lowered fare after Prime Minister Imran Khan took notice of the high ticket prices.
Consul General of Pakistan stated the fare of the economy class to Karachi being Dh 810 or Rs 36,200 on Tuesday, while the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi announced the price on Wednesday to be Dh 1,000 or Rs 44,800.
The two diplomatic missions also gave different instructions on obtaining the tickets; The Embassy in Abu Dhabi gave the go ahead to purchase tickets from travel agents or online from the PIA website, while the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai specifically instructed not to buy tickets from travel agents but rather from the approved counter in Deira Dubai.
According to the released figures 20,000 Pakistanis have been repatriated so far with 15,000 from Dubai and the remaining 5,000 from Abu Dhabi. Officials stated that 62,000 Pakistanis are still in UAE waiting to be repatriated.
