Pakistan Democratic Movement to Oust Establishment Backed Government

Opposition parties on Sunday held an ‘All Parties Conference’ dubbing their alliance as the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). The conference decided to put into effect a plan to bring about the end of the allegedly establishment backed government led by Imran Khan.

If the “immediate resignation of selected Prime Minister Imran Ahmed Niazi” did not take place, Maulana Fazl-Ur-Rehman, the JUI-F chief who addressed a media conference on behalf of the Pakistan Democratic Movement went on to say that protests will be held across the country, “In the first phase, beginning October, rallies will be held in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. In the second phase, starting December, huge demonstrations will take place country-wide. In the third phase, to begin in January next year, a long-march will move towards Islamabad.”

Pakistan Democratic Movement

The JUI-F chief summed up some of the movement’s goals in a statement: “end of establishment’s interference in politics, new free and fair elections after formulation of election reforms with no role of armed forces and intelligence agencies, release of political prisoners, withdrawal of cases against journalists, implementation of the National Action Plan against terrorism, speeding up of the projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and across the board accountability under a new accountability law.”

The forum also planned on upholding a new accountability in line with the Supreme Court, Human Rights Watch, and the Council of Islamic Ideology, which will affect everyone including bureaucrats, lawmakers, judiciary and even army officials. The alliance comes after three FATF bills were passed in parliament despite opposition.

Another point of contention was regarding retired Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa’s assets. Prime Minister Imran Khan refused the former Lieutenant General’s resignation following a report detailing his wealth and outcry on social media. The conference demanded that Bajwa be deposed from his position as the chairman of CPEC until further investigation into his money trail.
