The pandemic has seen a rise in unemployment and many businesses close but Careem has accelerated its plans to become a Super App because of the increased demand in the pandemic where people fear going out themselves. Careem has been slowly expanding its business with food and delivery introduced in 2019, and working in three key areas, mobility of people, mobility of things, and mobility of money. The end of June will see Careem make the full range of its services available to all of its customers and captains spanning 13 countries from Morocco to Pakistan. The app has 33 million registered users and with 1.7 million captains. Being such a big platform so well established in Pakistan, it will be the first Super App introduced in Pakistan.
Careem CEO and Co-Founder, Mudassir Sheikha, addressed this aggressive business strategy,
“The move from offline to online commerce is a secular and significant opportunity, one that has accelerated as a result of the global pandemic. Careem’s Super App supports this acceleration by bringing together people’s essential, everyday services in one place, with a single sign-on and integrated payment system. We are tailoring products and services to local needs so that people with busy lives can get right to the services that are important to them when they need them”
Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, concurred with Sheikha’s ambitious plans, “The Super App is Careem’s big bet for the wider Middle East region, and we’re excited by the positive, early signs we’re seeing, as people increasingly adopt digital services in their daily lives. I’ve been hugely impressed by the Careem team, as they have moved fast during the pandemic to innovate and meet changing consumer demand.”
With Careem you can have food deliveries made, or have things picked up from any business of your choosing and with Careem Pay you can transfer credit to make payments, to pay back family and friends or split a bill.
The Super App enables businesses to partner with Careem and make use of an extended customer base, more payment options, and more logistic capabilities. Partners will gain access to Careem’s 33 million registered users, Careem PAY payments infrastructure, along with a fast-growing network for last-mile delivery (LMD).
